Arts Therapy
Adults: Friday 10:30 AM - 12 PM (lunch included)
Children: Friday 4 - 4:45 PM
Koordak Arts Therapy provides arts therapy services to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults and children. The program is designed to preserve the cultural heritage of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities while also addressing mental health issues that may arise due to the challenges of modern life.
The program is based on the concept of arts therapy, which is a form of therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person's mental, physical, and emotional well-being. The program includes a range of activities that are designed to promote cultural preservation, such as traditional storytelling, gathering, hunting, dance, music, and visual arts. These activities help to engage community in the culture and traditions, which can have a positive impact on their mental health.
The program is community-led, which means that it is developed and delivered by members of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community. This approach ensures that the program is culturally appropriate and responsive to the needs and values of our community. It is also endorsed by the community, which helps to build trust and support among program participants.
Koordak Arts Therapy is an important initiative in the ongoing efforts to improve the mental health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. By preserving cultural heritage and promoting mental health, the program provides a holistic approach to addressing the challenges faced by these communities in a culturally appropriate manner.
