KASP (Koordak Afterschool Program) - Cultural Learning

TUESDAY - FRIDAY

3 - 5 PM

Koordak  Cultural Learning Program provided by the community-led and endorsed support system plays an important role in preserving cultural knowledge and reducing the loss of identity and mental health issues among our people.

Cultural knowledge is passed down from generation to generation through storytelling, language, song, and other cultural practices. However, the impact of colonisation and forced assimilation policies has resulted in the loss of much of this cultural knowledge, leading to a disconnection from culture and identity among many Aboriginal Communities. This disconnection can have serious consequences for mental health and well-being.

Koordak Cultural Learning Program provides an opportunity for families and children to learn, and share their cultural knowledge, which helps to preserve and promote the culture. This sharing of knowledge helps to reduce the loss of cultural identity and promote greater understanding and respect for culture, lore, and spririt.

Furthermore, the program is designed to be culturally safe, meaning that it is delivered in a way that is respectful of our cultures and traditions. This approach helps to create a safe and supportive environment in which our community feel comfortable learning, sharing, preserving their cultural knowledge, which in turn can have positive impacts on mental health and well-being, and also ensure culture is restored throughout our Noongar Community.

Overall, Koordak Cultural Learning Program is an important initiative in learning, preserving cultural knowledge and promoting cultural understanding. By reducing the loss of cultural identity and promoting greater respect for Indigenous cultures, the program can contribute to improved mental health and well-being among our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community.
