Yarning / Healing Circles

WEDNESDAY, 10:30 AM - 12PM (lunch included)

Koordak Yarning/Healing Circle is a traditional Noongar practice that involves gathering to share stories, experiences, and knowledge. It is a way to promote healing, build community, and strengthen relationships. The circle is often facilitated by our Kylie; with her experience in leading yarning circles.

The practice of yarning involves respectful and active listening, where community share their stories and experiences in a safe and supportive space. The circle is a non-judgmental space where everyone is encouraged to participate and contribute. The facilitator may use various tools to guide the conversation, such as a talking stick (created by community members during the circles) or a feather, which is passed around the circle to signify the speaker.

In the context of Koordak Yarning/Healing Circle can be a valuable practice for promoting healing, building community, and sharing cultural knowledge. It can be a way for community members to connect with each other, share their experiences, and learn from each other.

It is also important to ensure that the circle is held in a culturally appropriate and respectful way, with appropriate protocols and practices observed. This may include acknowledging the traditional owners of the land, and completing a smoking ceremony.

Overall, Koordak Yarning/Healing Circle is a valuable practice for promoting healing, building community, and sharing cultural knowledge in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of Ellenbrook.
